Hello, my name is Tyler Fearns and I’m a user experience designer. I’ve always had a passion for two things, continually learning and great design. These passions have been a driving force for me since my early years in high school. I quickly found interest in Photoshop and design and soon was competing in a national design competition. Naturally this drove me to pursue a degree in creative advertising at Virginia Commonwealth University.
During my studies at VCU I was spending most of my time learning new design tools and understanding what makes someone fall in love with the products they buy. I was also expanding my design mind by working with a concrete company. Working with concrete was much more than a way to make ends meet for me. It taught me that with hard work, great teamwork and careful planning you can take a bunch of dirt and turn it into something beautiful. No job was the same and each one brought different problems to solve. The problem solving skills I learned at that company still help me to this day.
After college I landed a job as a user experience designer at ForRent.com. I soon made the transition to project manager where I was able to take full control over my products. During these years I would learn a valuable lesson. It takes more than a great visual design to make your product desirable. To really make your product stick in this competitive market you have to have an amazing experience overall. It’s my job to orchestrate those experiences and I love every minute of it.
I’ve always enjoyed challenging myself to learn something new so I’ve picked up a few hobbies. I love creating things with my hands just as much as I love creating in the digital world. I’ve practiced leatherworking, glass etching, woodworking, and custom ink designs. I’ve also put some time behind the wrench working on my 1968 Chevy Chevelle. When I’m not at the crafting table or in the garage I’m working on improving myself in the gym or on the soccer field. I’m currently a certified personal trainer and am training young athletes in my extra time.
